They said the mountain community leaders and political workers shall come together beyond their political, ethnic, and regional divide to voice against the exploitation of natural resources, social and livelihood challenges. The mountain development and conservation plans of the government shall include the voices and concerns of the communities and other stakeholders. Ill-planned infrastructure development and environmentally unfriendly interventions in the name of tourism promotion and livelihood are becoming nature hazard. Islamabad : The need for a viable policy framework to boost climate resilience of the country’s urban areas against climate change-caused natural disasters was emphasised by experts during the National Inception Workshop on Climate-Resilient Urban Settlement here on Thursday.
According to them, heatwaves and flooding are major threats to the very sustainability of the cities irrespective of their sizes. Cities can be disaster-resilient only through the capacity-building of individuals, communities, institutions, businesses, and systems within these cities to survive, adapt and grow no matter what type of chronic stresses and acute shocks they experience. ....

Islamabad : Chairperson, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council, Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan has called for an integrated approach towards ensuring food security in the country.
Dr. Azeem was addressing a webinar on “Ensuring Food Security in constrained economic situation of Pakistan” organised here by Sustainable Development Policy Institute.
Dr. Azeem said that food security is directly linked with the national security and we need to improve the quality of our agricultural products as well as exploring climate change-resistant crops to boost our trade in this sector.
Scientific research and use of technology as joint public-private ventures is imperative to respond to new challenges,” he said while stressing the need for contextual production and improving the seed system to counter the rust attack and pests.
