In normal times, the audience before Billy Strings at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, Fla., on March 21, 2021, would’ve been disastrous.
Pockets of fans totaling about 1,600 were strewn throughout the amphitheater, which typically accommodates around 4,800.
But these aren’t normal times, and the red-hot 28-year-old jamgrass wunderkind was all smiles. The show, which capped a three-night, socially distanced, sold-out run at the venue, was a triumph. For the first time since the pandemic began, Strings played to fans in stands – not in their cars or on their couches.
