Energiekontor has halted operations at one of its wind farms in Lower Saxony, Germany, due to a rotor blade snapping off one of the turbines at the site. The Alfstedt-Ebersdorf wind farm is equipped with eight GE 5.3-158 units.
Construction on the Hermanville wind farm totalled $60 million in 2014, and the P.E.I. Energy Corporation estimates the costs to repair the non-functional wind turbines will be $10 million by the end of maintenance in September 2024. While Acciona has covered the costs associated with repairs to the wind farm in the past, the P.E.I. Energy Corporation stated it is still in discussions regarding the cost of this round of repairs.
General Manager John Harren said if Willmar Municipal Utilities had to rely on outside resources to keep the turbines running, it is likely they would no longer be functioning. Willmar Municipal Utilities is consistently monitoring the cost of power generated by the turbines, which is currently around 16 to 17 cents per kilowatt-hour.
