The rapid-fire bidding between two buyers saw the five-bedroom family home sell for $360,000 above reserve at auction on Saturday.
More than a dozen buyers turned out to compete for the home which was on the market for the first time in 50 years.
All fourteen registered buyers on the unlivable home were eyeing the property for its land value, agents said.
Four buyers competed for the Randwick home, which last traded for £1900 in 1930, but it was not enough to get a deal done.
More than one in two homes are now failing to sell via auction in some pockets of Sydney, as clearance rates continue to fall amid cooling buyer demand.
