The largest Texas school district in Houston has made the decision to convert 28 of its school campus libraries into "discipline centers" for unruly students. The decision sparked backlash from community members, who argue that the elimination of libraries will only harm students and school staff.
In the upcoming school year, the Houston Independent School District will eliminate librarian positions at more than two dozen schools and use some of the libraries as centers for students who have been removed from their classrooms for disciplinary reasons.

HISD Superintendent Mike Miles said that librarians and media specialists will be gone at the schools being overhauled under the New Education System.
