Socialist country. sam donaldson is a veteran journalist, and i want to bring him in to talk about all of this. thank you, mr. donaldson. i appreciate you coming on. i m pleased you invited me, don. you heard the president there talking about socialism. is he laying out a line of attack that we re going to hear heading into 2020? it s too late. over half of americans are on socialist programs from the federal government. i m on medicare. i m an old guy, and medicaid. welfare programs, not just for the poor. for the rich. hey, how about a sugar subsidy to the ranchers and farmers, let s buy you some wheat since you can t sell it in the market. we are already on the way. and, don, in a few years, we re going to have a single-payer system, i think. the public is pushing toward it. unless you say, but that s socialism well, no, i don t want that. but i do good medical care, and i want the government to pay for it. we re a socialist country already. so then there s a what do ....

look, i just think the department of commerce is such a base of cronyism, we need to eliminate it twice. that was a good response. he went on to say it was the department of education. as opposed to rick perry, bowled through there. any time as a candidate you re about to tick off a certain number of agencies is you should stop. the problem with perry spoke to a deeper concern about his campaign. no one is questioning ted cruz intellect. i think he gets a bit of a pass on that. texas and naming agencies, keep the two away from each other. remember, perry stopped and said oops, it was the oops that killed perry. it wasn t the missing piece. the other thing cruz did was he started laying i think the predicate for attacks to come with sugar subsidy mention that anybody on the stage, there s nobody who is really dealing with sugar subsidies, other than marco rubio. yeah, this was i think one of the most interesting and maybe ....
That said, this debt ceiling shows the perils of doing your thinking by being against whatever wall street is for. yes. because it is seriously dangerous. do you agree with that? i do. and that i think that shedding the first step in sort of reforming the republican party has been shedding the addiction, the dependence on k state. the next step is going to be getting not driving yourself down cul-de-sacs as i believe cruz has done, and i basically agree with what bob was just saying there. and so the question is, is there a way out? and it s tricky. is this a full-year cr? i put up a blog post saying what republicans should ask for is abolishing some corporate welfare program. the sugar subsidy, boeing subsidy, something like that, that you have to get out of this. and we ve gone from republicans sort of playing on conservatives making impossible promises and then casting fake votes and then going ahead and doing what k street to now ted cruz sort of promising a different s ....
