A planning inspector has yet to be appointed to decide whether a historic clock tower should be saved from demolition.

I have read a report in the Watford Observer of an appeal by an applicant that has been with the Government’s Planning Inspectorate, after Watford Borough Council turned down an application last month to demolish the Sun Clock Tower (Bid to demolish Clock Tower goes to appeal, April 9, 2021). Like many in the town, I am glad the historic Sun Clock Tower has been saved from demolition, although it is a while since it contained the clock.

Watford Borough Council has received an application to knock down the historic Sun Clock Tower in Ascot Road in the west of the town. The locally listed building has deteriorated over the last couple of decades or so and it could soon be wiped from the town’s history altogether.
