Nearly four years ago, Julia Foster was listening to her 6-year-old son slowly sound out words in his earliest efforts to learn how to read. As she heard her child becoming more fluent, the linguist, who speaks and reads five languages, recognized the power he was giving himself.
Right before her ears, her son’s world was opening up through reading. It was the moment she knew she would accept her new position as executive director for the Foundation for Monterey County Free Libraries.
