KUALA LUMPUR (April 16): For the first time in 40 days, Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases crossed the 2,000 mark yesterday.
And today, daily cases stayed above the 2,000 level, climbing further to 2,551 from 2,148 yesterday. This is the highest number of infections seen in over two months.
This shows that the Malaysia's Covid-19 infections curve is steepening again.
The cumulative confirmed infections has now soared to 370,528, from 115,078 as at Jan 1.
New cases were back above the 1,000 mark over the last 18 days, after briefly falling to 941 on March 29. Prior to that, new cases had continuously stayed above the 1,000 mark for over four months.

PETALING JAYA: Two localities in the country – one in Kelantan and another in Sarawak – will be placed under the enhanced movement control order from April 16 to 29.
Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said SM Ugama (Arab) Tarbiah Diniah Tahfiz Bunut Sarang Burung in Tumpat, Kelantan, had detected 50 positive Covid-19 cases out of 113 tests conducted.
He said the cases were spread among the residents in the school and the infectivity rate in the locality was high.
"The enhanced MCO is to enable the Health Ministry to control the movement of residents and to avoid the spread of Covid-19 to communities outside the school," he said in a statement on Thursday (April 15).
