'Folk need to get a grip' over Barrow advert says reader

A BILLBOARD advertising the 2021 Super Soapbox Challenge outside Craven Park has caused a stir amongst The Mail’s readers.
Despite the billboard causing uproar due to a ‘censored’ sign over a 2019 participant’s underwear, one reader believes it is still entirely appropriate.
They said: “Barrow snowflakes at it again – the guy is in fancy dress from the opening scene of Breaking Bad where Walter White is in his undies. I’m sure no one took offence to it on the actual day.”
Another reader said: “What has happened to the country? Overly sensitive to an advertisement and how many kids do you reckon have watched Breaking Bad?” ....

EVENT: Barrow Bid’s Super Soapbox Challenge in 2019
A TOWN centre trade group has responded to concerns raised over a large event due to take place this summer.
Barrow Business Improvement District s Super Soapbox Challenge is due to return to the town centre this year.
It brought out more than 15,000 spectators when it ran last time in 2019 and is due to return on August 29.
By that time people are due to have enjoyed the removal of all restrictions on social distancing for more than two months.
Several concerns have been raised in the past of the event and how it run. ....

It is being called a once in a generation opportunity, the chance to make significant investment in Barrow to build a bright future. Sarah French reports.
The town laid out its ambitions in #BrilliantBarrow, the title given to its bid to the Government’s Towns Fund with development plans under the themes of regeneration, skills and enterprise, and infrastructure and connectivity. It worked, with Barrow becoming one of the first towns to secure £25 million from the fund.
Councillor Ann Thomson, the leader of Barrow Borough Council, describes the successful bid as “a pivotal moment for our borough and all those who live and work here”. She adds: “The funding will ensure we are able to move forward into an exciting future through the launch of the innovative new projects identified through #BrilliantBarrow. These projects have the potential to generate long term benefits for our communities through opportunities in further and higher education, regeneration and ....
