Read Article LIVERMORE FALLS Selectmen voted 4-0, with one abstention, Tuesday to deny a request by a business owner to pay the entire plumber’s bill for a sewer backup into her building that was caused by a plugged main May 28 on Park Street/Route 133. Brenda Brochu, owner of BB Events and Rentals, which is in the former Bowen Brothers Jeep building, requested the town pay $433.84, the total cost to have a plumber take care of the backup. The Sewer Department had paid $216.92, which covered half. Brochu said she initially noticed seepage around the toilet and thought the wax seal was leaking. She called a plumber and cleaned up the raw sewage. A representative of A. Maurais & Son Plumbing Inc. in Jay called the Livermore Falls Sewer Department to confirm the main was clear and flowing, Superintendent Mark Holt said. ....

Read Article JAY The Select Board will hold a public hearing May 10 on sewer rates before setting the rate for 2021-22 that would go into effect July 1. The hearing will be held at 6 p.m. at Spruce Mountain Elementary School gym. It will be followed by a regular selectpersons’ meeting. The sewer bill year runs from July 1 to June 30, 2022. Related Since then the board has worked to gradually increase the rate to cover 100% of the operation and maintenance of the Jay Sewer Department. The debt service for the department is paid through general taxation. JAY Selectpersons voted unanimously Monday to accept an agreement to share a sewer superintendent with Livermore Falls. Jay Superintendent Mark Holt will oversee both towns’ sewer employees, collections systems and operation of the Livermore Falls’ Wastewater Treatment Plant. Livermore Falls approved the measure Thursday by a 4-1 vote. The Jay board also voted to authorize Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere to sign the contract. A joint sewer committee made up of Jay and Livermore Falls town officials have been reviewing ways to find efficiencies for about a year. There are two sewer superintendents, one in each town, with Livermore Falls’ superintendent retiring in June. ....
