VFI urges more support for pubs as new curbs announced

The Government has decided to close pubs serving food along with restaurants on Christmas Eve
The Vintners Federation of Ireland has called on the Government to provide a comprehensive new package of supports if the pub industry is to survive until the new Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
The group made its plea after the Government decided to close pubs serving food along with restaurants on Christmas Eve.
It said the decision bring closer the probability that pubs will remain shut past March 15, 2021, the one year anniversary of when the trade first closed.
The VFI said the Government s original plan to lockdown the country for six weeks until early December so the country could have a meaningful Christmas now lies in tatters. ....

Leitrim County Council has awarded Restart Grant payments to 345 businesses, with 467 businesses benefiting from payments under the Restart Grant Plus Scheme.
The Restart Grant and Restart Grant Plus schemes were designed to help small and medium sized businesses get back on their feet after what has been an exceptionally difficult time. The Restart Grant scheme was launched on 15 May, 2020 with a budget of €250 million. The Restart Grant Plus scheme was launched on 10 August with an additional budget of €300m from the Government’s July Jobs Stimulus as a result of the increasing demand for the scheme. ....

Agro-Star Foundation donates to widows in Tamale
Agro-Star Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) has donated food items to selected widows and vulnerable persons in Tamale.
Beneficiaries received food items including; rice, cooking oil and packaged cereals worth GH¢ 6,200, as part of the Organisation s Widows ‘mite.
The organisation has two schemes. The one designed to provide food items, cash and health screening for widows and the needy on monthly basis, and the other providing educational scholarship for needy tertiary students.
The Widow s Support Scheme further covers skills training for beneficiaries in soap making, food processing, beads making, among others.
Beneficiaries under this support scheme are supported with business capital and monitored until they become financially independent. ....

A new support fund has been launched to help local people, community groups and businesses develop sustainable infrastructure in the north Highlands following record numbers of visitors to the region.
Established by the North Highland Initiative (NHI) and Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL), the Community Infrastructure Support Programme (CISP) will offer grants of up to Â£1000 to communities in Caithness, Sutherland and Ross and Cromarty. ....
