great patience in restraint on the part of police who waited out the protesters for a couple of days before moving all out but now the challenge is going to be keeping that corridor open because the bridge, when you get on the canadian side, it's about three miles of surface streets until the next highway and lots of areas where protesters have said they're going to get in, try to slow things down. there's still a very heavy police presence along this route trying to keep anyone who moves in there moving along and not letting anyone stop, basically. so it's going to have to continue for a while, because you have protests for the protests across canada as well. several other locations across canada, much smaller border crossings than this one and they don't pack nearly the economic punch as the closing of the border crossing here but other protests in canada still going on and obviously, in ottawa as well where protesters have taken over parliament hill there and refusing to leave and maybe some

State officials are asking Utah motorists drivers to pick one of five areas where they can improve their driving.

Utahns drove fewer miles and died in greater numbers on state roads in 2020 — but most of that unexpected divergence was not the result of people driving at extreme speeds on the state’s highways.
The number of cars on the roads decreased 13% from 2019 to 2020, according to preliminary figures from the Utah Department of Transportation, while the number of fatalities rose 13% to 276. But the number of highway fatalities fell.

started with a shooting in south los angeles in which an elderly woman was shot and injured. we don't know the extent of her condition, her injuries. that was around 1:30. at some point around 3:00 you got the call that there was a chase going on in the hollywood area. can you take us from that point to where we are right now? >> i was listening to the scanners back at our office in fullerton. i hear the pursuit break out in hollywood. we called the station. they sent us toward the pursuit. it sounded like it went away for a while but it was still going on on surface streets through east hollywood, made its way over here into the silver lake area, all on sufrks streets and at that point we were just about to the scene when we heard officers calling for backup and that there were shots fired during the course of the pursuit at several points just prior to the suspect crashing here on hyperion into that power pole. now, when we arrived, we found the vehicle against that power pole. the suspect was inside and had taken hostages. he was telling or talking with

the trader joe's itself along with that suspect. >> and gil, we know this started with a chase. we don't know what prompted that chase or what that suspect was wanted for initially, but can you kind of run through how this start td in hollywood, moved east and ended right in front of this trader joe's, that suspect crashing there? >> it really was. in fact, it started in the hollywood area on surface streets. it was eastbound going into the east hollywood area, and the reports was that the suspect was armed and dangerous. when it got into the silver lake area we heard on the scanners that shots were fired during the course of the pursuit. a couple times in the course of the pursuit before the suspect crashed here in front of the trader joe's and at that point that suspect crashed into a power pole right near the front entrance of the trader joe's, jumped out of the car and according to witnesses that witnessed this at the scene the suspect jumped out and started firing at officers and ran into the trader joe's. that's where he barricaded himself, taking hostages. he let the lapd know that he had
