13th NLA adjourned sine die - Eastern Mirror

The last session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) ended on Thursday after two sittings that commenced on Tuesday. Speaker, NLA, Sharingain Longkumer adjourned the house sine die, stating that the business’ listed had been transacted successfully. The 13th NLA, starting from the first session in 2018, has had 12 sessions, 38 days of sittings with a total time of 151 hours and 50 minutes. It has passed 26 Bills and adopted eight resolutions apart from other important businesses. It also discussed 14 core subject matters under Rule – 50 pertaining to various issues of public importance, the speaker said. For the first time in the history of NLA (on Sep. 20, 2022), the floor had the longest duration of question hour, sixty-five minutes over and above the normally allotted time. ‘It was an extraordinary exception and for record, precedence will not follow’, he added. Therefore, one should explore one’s talents and give 100 per cent to excel in that,’ he said while addressing the Konyak Students’ Union, Kohima (KSUK) 37th fresher’s meet on the theme ‘Confluence through education’ at State Academy hall in Kohima on Saturday. Nagaland: Sangtam community celebrates Mongmong festival

Dimapur, Sep. 2 (EMN): The Sangtam community in Kiphire district celebrated the ‘Mongmong’ festival at the Kiphire local ground on September 2. The celebration was hosted by United Sangtam Likhum Pumji (USLP) with the NLA deputy speaker, T Yangseo Sangtam, as the special guest. A DIPR report stated that Sangtam tribe observes about 12 festivals spread all through a calendar year with feasting, dance and music built around the community life of the people. Being one of the most important festivals of the Sangtam community, Mongmong festival which means ‘togetherness forever’ is observed in the first week of September every year which stretches over six days. The main objective was to have a good harvest, food grains, for which the villagers toil throughout the year.
