On Tuesday, during his last full day as US President, Donald Trump issued an executive order seeking to curtail cyber attacks by directing the government to come up with rules requiring cloud service providers to better identify foreign customers.
It now falls to the incoming Biden administration to implement the order, which may end up simply being ignored, given the recent flood of executive orders.
The executive order on Taking Additional Steps to Address the National Emergency with Respect to Significant Malicious Cyber-Enabled Activities calls for the US Secretary of Commerce to propose rules to require United States IaaS providers to verify the identity of a foreign person that obtains an Account. ....

A Final Trump EO Would Regulate Cloud, Software and Remote Computing Services | Wiley Rein LLP

On January 19, 2021, President Trump issued an
Executive Order on Taking Additional Steps to Address the National Emergency with Respect to Significant Malicious Cyber-Enabled Activities (EO), designed to regulate United States Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) products, in order to address concerns about use by foreign malicious actors. Given the EO’s potentially broad impact, industry should monitor the Biden Administration’s treatment of the EO and any rules that the Commerce Department may draft as required under the EO. Notably, on January 20 ....

Microsoft Taking Additional Steps to Address Zerologon Flaw

Guarding Against Vulnerability
While Microsoft issued a patch for the Zerologon flaw in August 2020, it s not clear if all the company s customers have applied it to their networks to address the vulnerability. So, Microsoft will begin enabling domain controller enforcement mode by default, according to the company alert.
This will block vulnerable connections from non-compliant devices, Microsoft says. Domain controller enforcement mode requires that all Windows and non-Windows devices use secure [remote procedure call] with Netlogon secure channel unless customers have explicitly allowed the account to be vulnerable by adding an exception for the non-compliant device.
Domain controllers respond to authentication requests and verify users on computer networks. By enabling enforcement mode, the domain controllers will not allow Netlogon connections from devices that lack secure remote procedure call protocols unless those device accounts have been specifically add ....
