After spending seven years writing a novel about a coronavirus pandemic, living through a real pandemic has felt like a strange blend of fact and fiction for Saleema Nawaz.
From 2013 to 2019 — long before the first case of COVID-19 was detected — Nawaz pieced together her novel Songs for the End of the World, which follows a number of characters as they respond to a pandemic eerily similar to the current one.
