The Jefferson City Jays have the numbers. The Jays will send 11 qualifiers to the mat today in the Class 3 wrestling championships at Mizzou Arena. That total should give Jefferson City a shot at winning its second straight state trophy after tying for third in Class 4 last season.
The numbers told Carter Prenger what he had to do. Helias entered the final match in Wednesday night’s dual against Jefferson City trailing the Jays 31-27. A regular win at 120 pounds couldn’t win the dual, a major decision would only tie it. It was win by fall or by technical fall.

Clayton Hurley of Jefferson City lined up and shook hands prior to his 170-pound match Friday night against Braeden Trower of Eureka in the second round of the Missouri Duals at the Helias Gym.
Eight seconds later, the match was over as Hurley won by fall.
