New Delhi, July 17: Opposition parties announced Sunday that former Union minister and governor Margaret Alva is their candidate for the vice-presidential election scheduled to be held next month.
Droupadi Murmu, the NDA's Presidential candidate, was given a lavish reception in Mumbai today by the BJP and the Shiv Sena faction led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Decision comes a day after 16 MPs of the party, at meeting with Uddhav Thackeray, said that she is a tribal woman "and that's why we should vote for her"
The matter was slated for hearing today, however it was not listed in the cause list. Hence, the legal team of Thackeray approached the top court.
Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said the matter, which involves multiple petitions, will require the constitution of a bench and will take some time to be listed.
