How market incumbents can navigate disruptive technology change

 E-Mail
Researchers from University of Texas at San Antonio and University of Southern California published a new paper in the
Journal of Marketing that examines the difficult choices industry incumbents and new entrants face during times of potentially disruptive technological change.
The study, forthcoming in the
Journal of Marketing, is titled Leapfrogging, Cannibalization, and Survival during Disruptive Technological Change: The Critical Role of Rate of Disengagement and is authored by Deepa Chandrasekaran, Gerard Tellis, and Gareth James.
In July 2020, Tesla became the world s most valuable automaker, surpassing Toyota in market value for the first time. Ironically, it was Toyota that in 1997 released the Prius, the world s first mass-produced hybrid electric vehicle. In 2006, Tesla Motors, an upstart entrant, bet its future on fully electric cars. Incumbents dismissed the effort as futile because of the high entry barriers for auto production, the hi ....

Experts in optical physics have developed a new way to see inside living cells in greater detail using existing microscopy technology and without needing to add stains or fluorescent dyes.
Since individual cells are almost translucent, microscope cameras must detect extremely subtle differences in the light passing through parts of the cell. Those differences are known as the phase of the light. Camera image sensors are limited by what amount of light phase difference they can detect, referred to as dynamic range. ....

This summer, when bars and restaurants and stores began to reopen across the United States, people headed out despite the continuing threat of COVID-19.
As a result, many areas, including the St. Louis region, saw increases in cases in July.
Using mathematical modeling, new interdisciplinary research from the lab of Arye Nehorai, the Eugene & Martha Lohman Professor of Electrical Engineering in the Preston M. Green Department of Electrical & Systems Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, determines the best course of action when it comes to walking the line between economic stability and the best possible health outcomes. ....

Korean artificial sun, KSTAR, sets the new world record of 20-sec-long operation at 100 million °C

 E-Mail
The Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research(KSTAR), a superconducting fusion device also known as the Korean artificial sun, set the new world record as it succeeded in maintaining the high temperature plasma for 20 seconds with an ion temperature over 100 million degrees.
On November 24(Tuesday), the KSTAR Research Center at the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy (KEF) announced that in a joint research with the Seoul National University (SNU) and Columbia University of the United States, it succeeded in continuous operation of plasma for 20 seconds with an ion-temperature higher than 100 million degrees, which is one of the core conditions of nuclear fusion in the 2020 KSTAR Plasma Campaign ....
