Taiwan partners with Slovakia on space tech project

A Taiwanese delegation to Slovakia signed seven memorandums of understanding (MOU) with public and private entities, including a space technology pact that would bring to Taiwan a project related to a blockchain application used by the European Space Agency, officials said on Friday.
The 66-person delegation led by National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) and Minister of Science and Technology Wu Tsung-tsong (吳政忠) yesterday concluded their three-day visit to Slovakia.
The two sides on Thursday held a bilateral cooperation conference to exchange views on technology, higher education and innovative research, the Ministry of Science and Technology said in a statement yesterday.

NSPO head eyeing 80% autonomy of satellite industry

Taiwan is seeking to become 80 percent autonomous in manufacturing key satellite components by 2025 and develop small launch rockets, National Space Organization (NSPO) Director-General Wu Jong-shinn (吳宗信) said yesterday.
Following the six-satellite Formosat-7/COSMIC-2 constellation’s launch in 2019, weather observation satellite Triton is scheduled to be launched next year, Wu told a news conference in Taipei to mark the agency’s 30th anniversary.
Meanwhile, the agency is working on the Formosat-8 project, which would comprise six remote-sensing satellites with a resolution of 0.7m each, Wu said, adding that its first satellite is set to be launched in 2023.

IPAC invites minister to Rome meeting

Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu (吳釗燮) has been invited by the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China, an international cross-party group of legislators, to its meeting in Rome on Friday next week, the alliance said on Monday.
“Representatives from the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) a body of some 200 global parliamentarians will gather in Rome to stage a counter-meeting ahead of the G20 Leaders Summit to demand a tougher stance towards the Chinese government,” the group said in a statement.

Space tech pact to be inked - Taipei Times

Taiwan and the Czech Republic are to sign a cooperation agreement on space technology during a delegation’s visit to Europe later this month, Czech Space Alliance president Petr Bares said in an online forum yesterday.
The delegation is to be led by National Development Council Minister Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫) and Minister of Science and Technology Wu Tsung-tsong (吳政忠), and include Hsinchu Science Park Bureau Director-General Wayne Wang (王永壯) and National Space Organization (NSPO) Director-General Wu Jong-shinn (吳宗信), a source told the Taipei Times.
