Filipinas impress in Women's World Cup debut despite loss to higher ranked Swiss team
The Philippines women's national football team made their long-awaited FIFA Women's World Cup debut with a 0-2 defeat against the world No. 20-ranked Switzerland team. Historic entry: The 46th-ranked Filipinas marked the first time the country has qualified for any major FIFA football competition following an impressive run in the 2022 AFC Women's Asian Cup. PWNT head coach Alen Stajcic, who took charge of the team in October 2021, was instrumental in building the team’s current roster, composed of several Filipino American talents.
