The cold hits you first. Then comes the smell.
Inside a refrigerated shipping container are 17 plastic-wrapped corpses, each bearing a yellow label reading highly contagious.
The 12-metre (40-foot) steel box has been installed at Johannesburg morgue to help it cope with a rising tide of Covid deaths.
The container can store up to 40 corpses, keeping them at a constant zero degrees Celsius (32 degrees Fahrenheit).
Shipping containers have been brought in to handle an influx of Covid-19 corpses in hard-hit South Africa

AS THE region s remaining active coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases hit the 2,500-mark, the Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas encouraged Covid-19 patients with mild symptoms to consider temporary treatment monitoring facility admission instead of hospital admission.
Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH-Central Visayas spokesperson, said in a virtual press conference on Monday, January 25, 2021, that this is to give way the hospital beds to critically and severely ill patients who will be really needing them. ....

Deep below Karangahape Rd, tunnelling has begun for a new station as part of the $4.4 billion City Rail Link.
At the Mercury Lane entrance, two road header boring machines, named Jean Batten and Dame Valerie Adams, are excavating the station s 203m long platform caverns for nine-car trains.
When the workforce of 160 complete the digging and temporary lining for the tunnels by September, the country s deepest railway station will be well on the way to completion.
There is a second entrance to the station at Beresford Square. ....
