The Supreme Court in India is hearing a plea from the Centre to recall its order allowing a woman to terminate her 26-week pregnancy. The court suggested that the woman and her lawyer discuss the possibility of retaining the pregnancy for a few more weeks.
The Madras High Court ruled that it is not necessary for a doctor to disclose the name of a minor seeking termination of pregnancy resulting from consensual sexual activity. The court cited a Supreme Court directive that stated when a minor approaches a registered medical practitioner for termination of pregnancy due to consensual sex, the doctor is obliged to provide information on the offence to the relevant authorities under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
