Fourteen men died in the Cline Avenue bridge collapse, which remains one of the deadliest construction accidents in state history. Saturday marks the 41st anniversary of the tragedy.
"It's a reminder we off it to the people who were killed or injured in the past to make the workplace safer," USW Local 6797 President Pete Trinidad Sr. said.
United Steelworkers Union Local 1010 Grievance Chairman John Wilkerson is being remembered as a fierce advocate for workers who was rising up the union ranks.
"In 40 years, the bridge came and went. All those lives were lost. And now there's a new bridge. So much history has passed since they lost their lives."
