The bar exam in the United States, the latest edition of which will be administered Feb. 23-24, is a rite of passage for law school graduates. The test, which serves as their final academic obstacle to entering the legal profession, is older than the country itself. This gives the impression that it is a thoroughly ingrained tradition. 
For over a century, however, the bar exam played a minimal role. Some states allowed any citizen who could vote to also practice law. As more and more states sought to attract aspiring lawyers to fledgling law schools, they opted not to enforce a more rigorous bar exam, but to implement what is known as diploma privilege. A state with diploma privilege allows graduates of certain local law schools to enter the profession without passing a bar examination. ....

People do in doing an application and closing your fingers? i thought it couldn t be more intense. there was no big test prep industry. the people that charge $50,000 just to hold your hand from the 8th grade to the 12th grade and help you make every decision so you will impress the committee alt harvard. there is a woman that runs a weekend essay refinement thing. $14,000 for three days. those seminars are over subscribed. aren t these rich people s problems? i hear about this it seems very northeastern. very elite about getting to even the upper echelon of elite. a lot of kids think they want to go to the university down the street and don t feel necessarily the pressure you are talking about. i talk about people who went to state universities who went to schools that don t make people weak in the knees, there are a lot of paths to the corner office or wherever you are ....

An essay that nonetheless is factually incorrect. that needs to be fixed and clearly is going to be. but the s.a.t. maintains this test is biased, in favor of students from wealthier families. wealthy kids can take some expensive prep classes, if not private tutoring, take the test multiple times. do you think this is going to level out the playing field, all these changes? i think these are important steps towards a test that will help with those issues. is it perfect? i don t think so. i think we re seeing real effort on the part of the college board to address these issues. they are partnering with khan academy to provide free online test prep to all students. which i think will be useful. that said, the test prep industry feeds off of parents and students anxieties and changes are just going to bolster that anxiety. students and parents don t know what they re going to be facing in 2016. research shows that test prep really only boosts scores by 30 points. and that is not a lot ....
