Coastal Health District changing to regional testing sites
Beginning Monday, all COVID-19 testing services by the Coastal Health District will shift to two regional testing sites.
All testing through public health will be offered in Chatham and Glynn counties. Public Health will no longer offer COVID-19 testing in Bryan, Camden, Effingham, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh counties after this week.
In addition to public health sites, COVID-19 testing is also available through many private providers, pharmacies, urgent care centers and health clinics. ....

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Coastal Health District is shifting to regional COVID-19 testing sites.
All COVID-19 testing services by the Coastal Health District will be offered at two regional testing sites starting Feb. 1.
All testing through public health will be offered in Chatham and Glynn counties. They will no longer offer testing in Bryan, Camden, Effingham, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh counties after this week.
It’s a change to enhance their vaccine capabilities. ....

Chatham County now uses self-swabbing for COVID-19 tests

“It doesn t go up as far,” Brown said. “It’s much more comfortable.”
While testing remains free to the patient, self-swabbing is cheaper for the health department to run because it requires fewer clinicians and less personal protective equipment. Brown didn’t have a figure for the savings but said it’s “significant.”
“Traditionally when we re doing the naso-pharyngeal swabbing, I have six to seven nurses on hand to do that,” she said. “With the self swabbing, I can go down to two nurses. And with the old way with the naso-pharyngeal swabs, all six to seven of those nurses had to be in full PPE. With self swabbing, you don t have to be in full PPE. The clinicians just need to have a mask on. The only time we would be in full PPE is if someone was uncomfortable and we had to do the swabbing for them.” ....
