Ojai Valley News - 50,141 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in California for Dec. 25 and 26

There were 50,141 newly recorded confirmed cases of COVID-19 in California on Dec. 26, as reported by the California Department of Public Health on Dec. 27.
Due to a service interruption in Los Angeles, the confirmed case numbers reported on Dec. 27 from Los Angeles County reflect cases reported over the previous two days.
On Dec. 26, 336 patients with confirmed cases of COVID-19 were in Ventura County hospitals, and 20 people with suspected COVID-19 were hospitalized.
A total of 68 Ventura County patients with confirmed COVID-19 were in intensive care units, with four patients suspected of having COVID-19 in Ventura County ICUs. The ICU bed availability in Ventura County was 33, according to state Public Health data. ....

Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials on Saturday reported 142 new deaths and 29,464 new cases of confirmed COVID-19. Due to a service interruption caused by an outage on Friday, these numbers reflect both Friday and Saturday’s statistics.
Public Health confirmed 13,185 cases reported Saturday and 15,538 cases from Friday along with 131 deaths Friday and 5 deaths reported Saturday. Currently, 6,770 people are hospitalized with COVID-19, and 20% of these people are in the ICU.
According to the latest Public Health data, the Santa Clarita Valley has now tallied 15,623 confirmed COVID-19 cases among residents and 110 deaths which does not include the 5 additional deaths reported at Henry Mayo on Thursday. ....

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health on Wednesday again reported the highest number of new COVID-19 deaths and hospitalizations ever reported in a single day since the pandemic began, as Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia reported its 60th COVID fatality.
Public Health confirmed 145 new deaths and 16,525 new cases of COVID-19 countywide one of the highest number of new cases ever reported and 6,155 people with COVID-19 are currently hospitalized, 20% of them in the ICU.
“Two-thirds of these patients are suffocating due to the inflammation that’s in their lungs that’s caused by the virus,” said L.A. County Health Director Dr. Christina Ghaly. “They’re suffocating to the point where they can no longer breathe on their own and they have to have someone put a tube down their throat in order to oxygenate their organs. Many of these people will not live to see 2021.” ....

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has tragically surpassed 9,000 confirmed COVID-19 deaths. L.A. County has experienced more than 1,000 COVID-19 deaths in just two weeks; on Dec. 8, the County reported 8,000 deaths. This is an average of nearly 73 COVID-19 deaths per day over the past two weeks.
To date, Public Health identified 647,542 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of L.A. County, including 14,391 total cases in the Santa Clarita Valley, and a total of 9,016 deaths countywide. Public Health confirmed Tuesday 88 new deaths and 12,954 new cases of COVID-19.
There are 5,866 people with COVID-19 currently hospitalized and 20% of these people are in the ICU. The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 today is again a new high. Today’s daily hospitalization count has increased more than 2,700 daily patients from two weeks ago, when the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 was 3,113. ....
