Algorithm predicts 70% of earthquakes in trial
In trials that took place over a seven-month period, the algorithm predicted with impressive accuracy an earthquake's timing, location, and intensity.
Researchers have unveiled an AI-powered tool boasting a 70 percent accuracy rate in forecasting earthquakes one week in advance. This significant achievement emerged from a seven-month trial conducted in China.
An AI-driven tool developed by scientists at The University of Texas was 70% accurate in predicting earthquakes a week in advance during a trial in China. The AI successfully predicted 14 earthquakes within 320 km of their estimated location and at the calculated strength. However, it missed one earthquake and gave eight false warnings.
Predicting earthquakes is notoriously difficult, with thousands of preventable deaths as a result
