By: Augusta McDonnell NEWCASTLE, Oklahoma - A Newcastle area farmer experienced a total loss on his wheat crop Wednesday due to the hail storm. “The heads are broken, and the crop is not mature so it’s pretty well a total loss. We’ll bale it for hay, and we’ll get somethin’ out of it,” said Orvis McMahon, a farmer and rancher. McMahon said his son tipped him off that the hail was coming, right before the first stone hit his house. ‘The first hail stone hit our house and it was awful. It sounded like somebody was up there with a big sledge hammer,” he said.
