imposed by a judge. just a beating and death. last night, the memphis police department released for videos from january 7th, the night that the 20 nine-year-old tyre nichols was stopped by police in beaten by five officers. nichols was hospitalized in critical condition. he died three days later. the five officers involved were arrested on thursday. they were charged with second degree murder. one count of aggravated coal. two counts of aggravated kidnapping. two counts of official misconduct, and one count of official oppression. i want to be clear, what led to those charges and what you re about to see is a lynching caught on camera in america in 2023. and i do need to win, you this video is graphic and it is upsetting. the first part of camera footage shows tyre nichols first encounter with police. he stopped at an intersection, and then officer seen opening nichols car door and pulling him out violently in urgently. you can hear nickel say, i didn t do anything. ....

coverage. i m kate firing live from msnbc headquarters live in new york. this morning, memphis in the rest the country is trying to come to grips with the newly released video of police officers beating, kicking, tasing, pepper spraying tyre nichols, it s 49 year old unarmed black man. it was a beating that ultimately resulted in tyre nichols death, and murder charges for the five now former police officers. to begin this hour, i m going to hear from his mother about what kind of son he was. my son, i know everybody says, mother say that they had a good son, everybody son is good, but my son actually was a good boy. he had my name tattooed on his arm. that made me proud. most kids don t put they mom s name. but he did. my son was a beautiful soul. and he touched everyone. that is just so getting to hear from her. and now we are going to play a part of the video that was released last night. but i want to warn you, it is graphic, it is violent, and it s unbelievabl ....

good afternoon. i am back. a little bit later on, i m gonna tell you why you have not seen me for a couple of weeks. we want to start this hour with calls for action. protests in memphis in around the country today. this comes after the release of the shocking video of the police beating that led to death of tyre nichols. we re gonna show you some videos with a warning. it is really disturbing. we are showing it not to sensationalize it, but because watching it is the only way to really understand the extreme nature of what happened. from the moment we see tyre nichols, the assault began. they use pepper spray and a taser on him. even before he ran. police caught up with him and beat him. watch this. give me your hands. watch out. give me your hands. hit him. watch out. give me your hands.
