A striking feature of Ramana Maharshi’s teachings is that they have a strong rational appeal because his realisation, being based on his own experience, was independent of all extraneous authority. Little wonder that seekers of different denominations, spread over different parts of the world, continue to be drawn to his teachings even 71 years after his having entered ‘mahasamadhi’.
The manner in which Maharshi imparted his teaching was unique. He preached through silence and never gave any elaborate discourses. He believed that powerful spiritual vibrations keep flowing from the inner depths of a Self-realised master on a constant basis, therefore, sitting in the presence of such a Master is enough to bring about a radical change in the seeker’s outlook on life. To attain Paramatattva, the Supreme Stance, there are three recognised means jnana, intellectual knowledge; karma, action; and bhakti, devotion. Everybody, including Adi Shankaracharya, one of the greatest philosophers in India, has accepted that for salvation, devotion is the best approach. Bhakti is greater than jnana and karma.
When all your sentiments and aspirations, move towards that Singular Entity without any second thought, then that psychic movement of yours is called bhakti. The flow of this very devotion is prema, divine love. When this flow is towards nothing else but Vishnu, it alone is prema. The entity which is all-pervading in this cosmos is Vishnu. ....
