New Thibodaux Middle School to be completed by May 2023, 850 students

Officials broke ground Tuesday on a $37.6 million Thibodaux Middle School that should be complete in May 2023.
The building, at 724 Cardinal Drive, is being constructed on a lot between East and West Thibodaux middle schools.
The new school will merge the other two for a total capacity of 850 students. Once it's complete, the other two schools, which officials have long said are in disrepair, will be torn down.
The two-story, 141,160-square-foot building will have two floors and will house two gyms, a library, specific wings for sixth through eighth grades, a play area and competition fields.
School Board members, parish officials, Nicholls State University personnel and others attended Tuesday's ceremony.
