Daniel Griffin, 60, of Belmont, was sentenced to five years in federal prison Friday for his role in an overtime fraud scheme that rocked the agency, according to Acting US Attorney Joshua S. Levy’s office.
Lt. James P. Fogarty insisted that he would not have allowed troopers to take federal money for hours they did not actually work.
Lt. Eric Bernstein, who took over as commander of state police traffic programs from former Lt. Daniel Griffin, testified in Griffin's trial.
The testimony came on the first day of the trial of Lt. Daniel J. Griffin and Sgt. William R. Robertson in federal court.
