The Thracian Oracle: Has the Famous Sanctuary of Dionysus Been Found?


The object is called Prav Kamen , in translation “an upright stone”. The site itself has a complex structure with a cult character, the first evidence being provided by the dolmen that serves as an entrance. This entrance leads to a large round, stone platform, on the north side of which stands a large stone block. It is oriented to the east and has the shape of a human head. It is visibly charred from a height of 70 cm (28”) from its base, indicating that a tripod was probably used here to light a fire.  Sacrifices made in this fashion were popular in antiquity. ....

Who Was Spartacus?
Spartacus story begins in Thrace, a region to the north of Greece, the west of Italy, and to the south of the Celtic tribes.  His exact beginnings are up for debate: Plutarch states that he was of a nomadic tribe, while writer Florus claims he was a mercenary.  However, what Plutarch, Florus, and only a half a handful of other relatively reliable classical sources agree on is that Spartacus somehow left Thrace and became part of the Roman army .  Whether he was taken captive into their service or offered himself as a willing volunteer, Spartacus served in the legions for an undetermined period until some twist of fate landed him as a prisoner in Capua, where he attended the gladiatorial training school. ....

International tenders to sell a majority stake of the port authorities of Irakleio (Herakleio) and Volos, on Crete and in central mainland Greece, respectively, will reportedly take place at the end of March or early April.
Greece s privatization agency, HRADF, is also expected to announce, within March, which investment schemes have been selected in the second phase of a tender to exploit the ports of Alexandroupolis and Kavala, both in northern Greece, with the port an announcement dealing with the port of Igoumenitsa, in extreme northwest Greece, by the end of the month. ....
