Greenville rally seeks to decrease violence, unify community

View Comments
A Greenville activist hopes to spur a system change that will help decrease in violence by unifying the community.
This will be the rally cry at the "Decrease the Violence by Unifying the Community" event set for 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at 424 Birnie St in Greenville.
The rally, sponsored and planned by Tikeeta Wallace, is also a call to "restore the public faith and trust in the leadership ability and policy making decisions of Greenville leaders," a flyer said.
One of Wallace's hopes is that community leaders, organizations, and elected officials will work with residents to improve the community.

Judson Mill community garden site being sold for development

An .850-acre site donated to a former mill village for use as a community garden is being sold for potential residential development.
Tikeeta Wallace wanted to save the site at 123 Hawkins St. in Judson after noticing the rezoning signs placed there months ago. But Wallace said she could never get answers to what was happening and when.
She was still searching in late March. But by then, the Greenville County Council had given final approval to rezone the site to R.-75 single family residential at the request of Mark Thoennes Builders on behalf of Thrive Upstate, the owner of the site.
