GSC lobbies for on-campus rent freeze, paves way for constitutional reform

(PHOTO: TAMMER BAGDASARIAN/The Stanford Daily) 7 hours ago The Graduate Student Council (GSC) is urging the administration to freeze rent in the Escondido Village Graduate Residences (EVGR) until the University can provide a functional legal mailing address and substantial building facilities. At the Council’s Wednesday meeting, however, Stanford’s Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE) pushed back on the GSC’s petition, saying that the rent hikes are necessary to meet the University’s funding needs for housing. The Council also unanimously passed a slate of bills that will allow amendments to the Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) Constitution including a move to a Single Transferable Voting (STV) system and the elimination of gendered language in the Constitution   to appear on the spring general election ballot.

Review Editorial Board: ASSU Exec Vianna Vo Should Resign

Review Editorial Board: ASSU Exec Vianna Vo Should Resign Stanford University: that’s the rebranded name of the ASSU and its accidental executive, Vianna Vo. Last Friday, Vo sent a memo to Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Susie Brubaker-Cole. In that memo, Vo (whose job is to represent the student body) advocated against the planned return to campus in spring quarter for juniors and seniors. “[T]he ASSU believes that bringing only graduate and special circumstance students back to campus will preserve the well-being of those already on-campus, and signal the importance of placing community needs over the individual as we continue to face the pandemic.”
