UP: To Lacey Cale at Emerson Elementary School, Edna Ruth Patrick at Madison Elementary School, Deanna Cunningham at Kenna Elementary School in Jackson County and Lori Franks at Tyler Consolidated High School, for being among the recipients of the 2021 STEM-Minded Educator Grants. The awards of up to $1,000 are meant for materials or technology that can be used either in the classroom or in students’ homes. As the coronavirus pandemic has put us on the fast-track for educational adaptability, these teachers have shown they are ready to give our kids the tools they’ll need to live in the world that awaits them.

VIENNA — Two firefighters with the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department received awards for their outstanding service to their community.
“We believe this pat on the back of these individuals shows how dedicated they are,” said Vienna Fire Chief Steve Scholl. “…Both are very deserving individuals.”
The awards are chosen by a committee that consists of three chief officers, the former year recipient of the Firefighter of the Year award and this year the addition of the individual who came up with the idea for the new award.
