one of the few remaining swing congressional districts new york s 19th went democratic. at least far moment in time, he was a snapshot of america s political mood. a swing district won by obama and then trump and then biden voted to send democrat pat ryan to washington. ryan ran on abortion right. his republican opponent focussed on the economy and crime. and now a midterm election that is just 73 days away and once seemed a fore gone conclusion, a republican takeover of the house and the senate, is much more uncertain. as jonathan weissman pointed out the new york times this week, republicans need just five seats to win the house. and their candidates are in strong positions to win the bulk of nine districts that mr. trump would have won easily two years ago if the new maps had been in place. seven of those nine seats do not have a democratic incumbent to defend them. here is another way to look at it. the nonpartisan cook political report rates 10 democratic seats a ....

cnn s natasha bertrand joins me now. the director of national intelligence is taking this very seriously. she is and rightfully so, right, because of all the sensitive information we believe was in these documents and we re learning that the director of national intelligence, avril haines has written a letter to the oversight and house intelligence committees telling them that she has begun a classification review and a review of the risk to national security that these kind of loose documents could pose. now, clearly this is kind of an escalation here. we weren t sure whether the intelligence community would be able to see the documents that had been retrieved from mar-a-lago because they are part of an active criminal investigation, and the fbi typically holds very closely any evidence in those probes. but obviously the risk here, the potential risk to national security contained in these documents is just too great for the intel community to not be made aware of wh ....

may have we may lose the ability to leave. the agents text each other afterwards about what they went through? were they texting before the fact about their concerns about what happened that day or what the president was saying or doing? we still don t know. however, tonight we do know more about when the agency s top watchdog knew the messages were missing. tonight, multiple sources familiar with the matter, tell cnn that the inspector general first learned of the missing messages back in may of 2021. now, that s significant because that s not what secret service officials told congress. they told congress that the inspector general, joseph ka far ri, knew in december of 2021. and if he knew in may of 2021, that means it was more than a year before he told the house select committee that potentially crucial information might have been erased. the secret service, as you know, says the messages were lost during a scheduled data migration that began on january 27th, t ....

hunt for missing secret service texts goes back more than a year, it seems. and it turns out investigators knew the texts were deleted in may. i don t mean may of this year. i mean may of last year. that s actually seven months earlier than what the secret service told congress. now, this is on top of reporting from the washington post, the text from acting homeland security chief are mia. dhs offering a similar excuse, that texts were lost in some sort of reset of government phones at the end of the trump administration. wolf is just the latest of trump cabinet level officials we re learning has actually talked to the house select committee. cnn has also learned that interview was several months ago. that s before investigators knew about the missing records. so, now we ve got missing homeland security records along with deleted secret service text messages. just add it to the list. along with missing white house call logs and the presidential daily diary, all silent ....
