Daycare centres reopen in Mysuru | Mysuru News

MYSURU: Several daycare centres that closed when the pandemic-induced lockdown was imposed in March last year, have reopened in Mysuru city, albeit with limited service.
The government, though, has not permitted these centres to reopen, but the fact that many have has come as a relief to young working couples, who have no one to attend to their children. The state women and child welfare department has also reopened anganwadis as per a court order with just five pupils per session.
Harini Narayan, a private bank employee from the Srirampura II Stage and a mother of a 4-year-old boy, said all these days, taking care of her child was a challenge as schools were shut and maids were not available for the whole day. “But now, a woman who was running a daycare centre has resumed service. I need to adjust timings only for lunch.”

BENGALURU: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), set up five years ago by the Congress government by hiving it off from the institution of Lokayukta, has been successful in getting conviction in just four of 1,445 cases, raising questions about the speed with which it handles graft in public offices.
Since 2016, the ACB has registered cases against 186 government staff on charges of amassing wealth disproportionate to known sources of income and bribery cases against 957 government employees. Of these cases, the accused in four cases have been convicted, as per information sourced by the Karnataka Rashtra Samithi which is fighting corruption in government offices.

Civic staff kills self over manual scavenging row in Karnataka | Mysuru News

Narayana
MANDYA: A sweeper with the Maddur town municipality hanged himself on Tuesday, three months after he was allegedly forced to get into a manhole and clean it with his hands. In a note he left behind, Narayana, 37, blamed top officials for harassing him to declare that he had voluntarily gone without safety gear.
Sources said on November 2, Narayana was forced to clean a manhole and he was being hounded since as the incident made headlines.
Mandya sweeper’s pay was withheld, say colleagues
Sources said municipal officials forced Narayana to clean a manhole without gloves, mask or any cleaning equipment. The incident made media headlines and an inquiry was ordered against the officials and CMC president Sureshkumar. As word of the manual scavenging got around, the officials came under flak and reportedly harassed Narayana to own up the lapse, and say that he voluntarily got into the manhole without any protection.

Karnataka: All out efforts by the endowment department to popularise Saptapadi mass weddings | Mysuru News

Representative image
MYSURU: The state Hindu religious institutions and charitable endowments department is making all out efforts to make the mass marriage programme Saptapadi in a bid to popularise simple marriages. As per the proposal, even a single pair can enter the wedlock in these marriages on the notified day.
As per the plan, the temple management will notify the Saptapadi event dates well in advance. Even if a single pair enrolls for the particular day, the event will be held.
The state government launched the scheme in 2020 to popularise mass marriages. In the year 2020, the endowment department wanted to launch this scheme simultaneously in many temples on the day of Akshaya Tritiya.

Mysuru-Bengaluru train commute proves expensive sans monthly passes | Mysuru News

Passengers say they have to stand in a queue to purchase tickets. Booking them online is even more expensive
MYSURU: When train services resumed after pandemic-induced restrictions were lifted in October last year, commuters on the Mysuru-Bengaluru line heaved a sigh of relief. But with railways yet to resume monthly passes, passengers are dejected since travel is burning a hole in their budgets.
Sources say about 2,000 monthly passes were being issued to passengers on the Mysuru-Bengaluru line before the nationwide lockdown was imposed.
An employee who travels daily between Kengeri and Mandya said the cost of commuting has skyrocketed. Previously a monthly pass would cost him Rs 600, but now he has to shell out five times that sum.

Dasoha at the Nanjangud temple. Devotees say the food is prasadam and that it’s a vital part of the pilgrimage journey
MYSURU: Many temples in Mysuru district, that had shut their kitchens when the nationwide pandemic-induced lockdown was announced, have resumed ‘Dasoha’, the practice of offering free meals to devotees and visitors. The free meals are an integral part of the pilgrimage journey for many.
Three major pilgrim centres in South Karnataka — Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi hills, Nanjangud Srikaneshwara temple, and Sri Malai Mahadeshwara Swamy Kshetra in Chamarajanagar district — are among those that have resumed mass feeding programmes.
At Nanjangud and Chamundeshwari temples, Dasoha resumed on February 12, although the temples only offer the afternoon meal. “We have continued with the same menu which includes rice, rasam, payasa etc for lunch,” said SN Yathiraj Sampathkumaran, executive officer, Chamundeshwari temple.
