Deaf community facing interpreter shortage | Sky News Australia

EXCLUSIVE: A lack of interpreters is becoming a growing concern despite sign language class enrolments surging by up to 1,000 per cent since the pandemic began. Former Deaf Australia chairperson Todd Wright told Sky News the growing demand has put a large “strain” on professional interpreters. The Deaf Society’s Kate Matairavula said the impact has caused her to book weeks in advance. She said the visibility of interpreters during announcements on television likely caused the uptick in interest.
