The Carlton Tavern seen before it was demolished in 2015 (CC BY-SA Oxyman/Wikimedia commons) A historic London pub that was illegally knocked down by an Israeli development company two days before it was set to be declared a heritage site will reopen Monday, six years after the city council ordered it rebuilt “brick-by-brick.” The Carlton Tavern in Maida Vale, West London, was the only building on its block to survive the Nazi blitz in World War II, and will be one of the thousands of pubs across Britain that will open their doors Monday as the country lifts some coronavirus restrictions.

The sun came out and so did locals as a rebuilt pub in Kilburn reopened having been reduced to rubble six years ago.

A 100-year-old old pub which was illegally demolished by a developer and was ordered by a judge to be rebuilt 'brick by brick' following a campaign from locals will reopen its doors for the first time in six years tomorrow.   The Carlton Tavern in Maida Vale, west London, was being considered for Grade-II listed status when it was torn down in 2015 without planning permission. A campaign was launched, backed by residents, including Red Dwarf star and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Danny John-Jules, to prevent flats being built on the site and a judge ordered for the pub to be rebuilt.

Tom said: "They've done an amazing job at rebuilding it as it was. A lot of people have come in and said what a beautiful old building and they don't believe us when we say it's brand new. "We feel we're getting the best of both worlds. We're getting a brand new pub with brand new electrics and wiring; and plumbing, but we're getting the charm and beauty of this heritage pub."
