The scimitar-horned oryx calf was born to mother, Too Haute, on Oct. 8.
A scimitar-horned oryx calf named Eclipse was born at the Lehigh Valley Zoo in Schnecksville, Pennsylvania in November. The antelope species was declared extinct in the wild in 2000 and has been the subject of a number of captive breeding programs, as well as an attempt reintroduce them into the wild in Chad. The animals were once widespread in North Africa, but were decimated by loss of habitat and hunting.
Lehigh Valley Zoo officials have reasons to be thankful this season, adding rare animals to the facility.
