I like the name. it sounds scientific. tornado condition index. as you say, the probability of a tornado within about 50 miles of a location and i look at the ingredients that come together. there are three. we are seeing them here. you have to have instability to create the thunderstorms, warm, moist air. you have to have favorable wind conditions, increasing speed turning with height, and then you need the trigger using an upper air system, like baking a cake. you need the two ingredients and then you have to stir it. the upper air system comes in and stirs it up and an outbreak results. did the tor-con predict the storms over the weekend? it did indeed. i predicted the area of the storms here and then some of the highest numbers, in fact the highest number i had predicted since its inception a year ago was a nine. i predicted saturday morning for mississippi and alabama. that s on a scale of zero to ten. so that s 90% chance of a tornado within 50 miles in that area. before ....
