Based on the findings, the Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission may conduct a treatment this year to help prevent algae blooms.
Climate change has been contributing to worsening water quality in Lake Auburn, as winter ice cover diminishes, and water temperatures are rising, giving algae more time to grow. And more extreme storm events can dump sediment and runoff which further degrade water quality.
Lake Auburn is one of the few water systems in the country that don't need to be filtered because it has high water quality. But that's at risk.
