Construction continues on what will one day be I69. The speed limit has gone down to 45 in the area now, since most of it is a construction zone. Gainesville police this week reported more speeders and crashes along West University Avenue, including a DUI for the first time since increasing its traffic enforcement presence on the road in late January. GPD continues to collect data on that road, along with Southwest 34th Street, Southwest 13th Street and Archer Road, as part of its Special Traffic Enforcement Program. Traffic citations on University Avenue drop last week Gainesville police reported a significantly lower number of citations, warnings and speeders along West University Avenue between Southwest 34th and 13th streets last week as it diverted more of its resources to another area. Officers instead focused their efforts along Southwest 20th Avenue due to recent fatalities that prompted traffic homicide investigations.
