To confirm that this part is in fact off of the aircraft that has been identified. they do have numbers on the aircraft that corresponds to a flaperon on a boeing 777. they will confirm that. they will look at the damage to determine what type of impact this part was exposed to low speed or high speed. what i have seen looks like a low speed impact where the damage to the flaperon was minimized. because this is a movable control surface. let s get a baseline definition. what is a flaperon? when you look out the window you see the trailing edge. those are the trailing edge ....

Pieces. also the young lady mentioned the sea shells, barnicles i believe she s talking to. that piece being in the water over a year, didn t take long for barnicles to attach to floating pieces of material in the ocean. does that appear to be a complete flap or part of one? well parts of the trailing edge are torn off, but the leading edge looked in real good shape, which i am not an accident investigator, but i would think that the leading edge didn t impact the water too hard. but like i said, i think a boeing engineer could tell you in two minutes. they don t get those flap arounds from a boeing, that s specifically to a 777, they can ....

Are hoping to find more debris in the coming days, right? that s right. i think they re going to comb at the beaching along the reunion island, any adjoining atolls, and they re going to put some boats out to sea around reunion to see if there is anything else out there. they have to. this thing cannot stay unknown. assume, miles, there are teams of experts combing thor beaches on reunion, helicopters flying around. it s pretty remote, as you and i know, but it s obviously a potential source for good information. yeah, i think the more debris you find, the better, bud i want to take up a quick issue with mr. quest on this. i ve been looking carefully at this damage all day today. if you look at the leading edge of that flaperon, it s almost perfect. it s not damaged whatsoever. the trailing edge, however, looks at paper that is torn. i ve been talking to some engineers and mechanics about ....

Tom costello who has been following all parts of the season. tom, what can you tell us? 657 bb does come from a trailing edge flap on the wing of a 777. if there was any doubt after yesterday when boeing engineers looked at the photographs and said it looks like a 777 part to us. if there is ever any doubt it seems to eliminate the doubt. there is the part number by the way. 6a a 657 bb. this will be transported to ed toed to france and french investigators will do a thorough forensic analysis of the big component, the flaperon if you will. they are going to see if there ....

Tears and shawn, this is my final question. but does it look for lack of a better word mingled to you? no. no not at all. in fact it looks amazingly in tact. it does. yeah, absolutely. it s the primary and secondary impacts that we see on parts and we look at them. this does not indicate that the way this part that it was a high-angle impact. if this came off of an airplane from hitting the water looking at this single part i don t see it striking the water at a severe angle. you would see crumpling and inertia takes over and it smashes to the front. you see things compressed. on the leading edge and trailing edge with a steep impact. none of that seems to be present with this. what does that suggest? if it s from 370, it suggests a ....
