Functional, i agree with geoff on that. the reason it didn t perform is because you have to have a participating air traffic control in the system. i don t believe they participated. as far as turning it off, it s not the transponder that turns it off, but a function on the 777 of the flight management computer and then it can be turned off. next gen is going to the united states because we are participating in next gen. with other countries. europe is participating. other countries are and i m not familiar with the far east. that s why the system failed with malaysia 370. david soucie. i was on the team that wrote the funding document that goes to congress for next gen. if you want to go to know more about next gen you need to talk to me. it is sending a signal out, which is unless i m not going after you hear, i m talking ....

This is used on the north atlantic. the reason the adsb, it was functional, i agree with jeff on that. but the reason it did not perform was because you have to have a participating air traffic control in the entire system. so i don t believe that they participated. as far as turning it off it is not the transponder that turns it off. what turns it off is a function on the triple 7 anyhow of the flight management computer, then it can be turned off. but next gen is going to the united states because we re participating in next gen. with these other countries, europe is participating. other countries are, and i m not familiar with the far east, but that is why this system failed with malaysian 370. david souci? yeah, i actually was on the team that wrote the omb 300, the funding document. if you want to know more about next gen, you need to talk to me, not understand who doesn t understand what adsb, adsb 1 ....

Over the gulf of mexico where you do not have radar coverage. but it the coverage is now with the disappearance of flight 370, could this kind of technology essentially prevent a plane from disappearing? here is the thing. the plane s transponder would still need to be on. if it is off, the plane would still disappear. and as you know, already said that flight 370 s transponder was turned off, carol. to make it clear for our viewers, this new gps system, just to simplify things, the fa a s requiring planes to have them by the year 2020, is that right? right. so, here s the breakdown. we do know that some 100 air traffic controllers, they are already using the technology. in another five years, another 130 of the air traffic control towers will also be using it. and in another six years, all airplanes must have the equipment on board that would enable them to be tracked in ....

Technology on all planes by 2020. sounds like a big headline and i know you feel differently because you think there s some weaknesses to the system? well, look, this is a big initiative that s been in the works for a long time. it s gonna mandate a replacement of equipment in every air men flying in the controlled airspace. it s a lot of planes. it s a lot of money. it s a big deem for aviation here in the united states. it s gonna change the way that air traffic controllers stay in communication with the planes and know where they are. but? but the problem is this suspect gonna solve what happened to mh-370. mh-370 was already equipped with this technology. had the technology on board. this has been rolled out elsewhere in the world. early days of disappearance, you went on the websites to track the progress that s how they knew where it was, it was turned on. it was one of the things turned off, along with the transponder and everything else. ....
