SEVIERVILLE — Community members have until the afternoon of Feb. 22 to submit comments to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation regarding an application for a permit renewal submitted by Johnson Matthey Inc.

Johnson Matthey is a company founded in London in 1817, when it originally tested the purity of precious metals. Looting Suspects Denied Request For New Judge Over Bias Claims

Charlie Schlenker
/ WGLT
Two people charged in looting incidents that led to more than 40 arrests last summer in the Twin Cities  lost their bids for a new judge on Monday after a second judge rejected their bias claim against Judge William Yoder.
“This is not business as usual,” said McEldowney.
Defendants in the looter cases are being treated differently than others accused of felony burglary, said McEldowney, calling Yoder's position “a blanket decision" that amounts to “an abuse of discretion."
McLean County prosecutor Aaron Hornsby noted that neither Blake nor Bailey have offered specific plea deals to Yoder, adding the judge has been upfront about his approach to the looting cases.

Maine home builders, remodelers association innovate as business surges

The home remodeling and building industries in Maine have surged this year, and the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Maine is navigating the wave with a variety of new initiatives.
"Demand for remodeling is really high," Maya Bogh, president of HBRAME, told Mainebiz this week. New builds are also on the rise.
Also on the rise is membership in the association. Bogh was elected president in July as HBRAME, which represents about 120 residential builders and associated professionals in the state, looks to grow and innovate.

The association, which represents the residential construction industry, was already busy before the pandemic hit. The group's work includes supporting members through apprentice and educational programs, helping builders and municipalities understand building code, and helping consumers understand their building options.
