WASHINGTON  It s a short drive to Tres Rojas Winery on a gravel and asphalt millings road off East Cruger Road.
The unpaved path is nothing like the proverbial long and winding road that Bob and Lisa Barry traveled before finally finding a spot for their winery.
After having winery proposals rejected by East Peoria and Peoria zoning boards, mainly because of complaints from prospective neighbors, the Barrys purchased 50.6 acres of the Tarvin farm owned by Washington in June 2019.
The couple then waited patiently for a few months for rezoning, annexation and a special-use permit to be approved by the City Council before work on the winery could begin. ....
