One of the paddlers, Joe McNamara, said they were all triathletes who decided they needed a new challenge. Rather than swim, cycle or run, they settled on sea kayaking. And crossing Bass Strait became the ambitious target. “It’s probably the most iconic stretch of open water that us Aussies know about,” McNamara said. “It’s got a bit of a reputation for being dangerous. And we thought to ourselves, if we can cross that, we can cross anything.” Depending on weather conditions – and presuming borders are open – they plan to travel up to 350 kilometres from Port Welshpool in Victoria to Little Musselroe Bay in Tasmania over eight or nine days. ....
